 "Frustrating Touchpad" 2010-08-03
By T. Hedrick (Kettering, Ohio)
I purchased this keyboard several months ago for use with my HTPC. I made the unfortunate mistake of not trying it out until just after the seller's return period; I would have returned it for a refund, otherwise.

The keyboard itself is not bad. The keys have a nice feel, and they aren't mushy. It has the standard Media Center keys (volume up/down and such) on the far left.

The main reason I purchased this model was because of the touchpad, though warily so. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to the hype in the manufacturer's description. If the driver design and implementation had been done like Synaptics does with their touch pads, this keyboard would have been near perfect. Unfortunately, the driver and implementation are a half-baked monstrosity.

One of its biggest problems is that you can't adjust sensitivity. There isn't a scroll wheel; you place two fingers together and move them up and down or left and right to scroll in those directions, respectively. Sadly, many times it reads my scroll gestures as taps, which does something else entirely, and many times I've felt like throwing the thing.

As for the ability to tap to get button behavior: Again, there's a sensitivity problem here. Sometimes it recognizes taps, sometimes it doesn't. It's really, really annoying.

One last annoyance... I'm a Firefox user, and I'm an avid user of mouse gestures. You can forget about that with this thing. Though it has "real" mouse buttons, when you hold down the right mouse button and swipe across the pad, it doesn't register properly.

I absolutely, unwaveringly DO NOT RECOMMEND this keyboard. Spend your money on something better designed.

BTW, I e-mailed the seller, CE Compass, not long after the return period had expired, pleading for their mercy, and they completely ignored me. I'd steer clear.

"Worst piece of engineering I have ever seen" 2010-07-14

If you are looking to give your kids a toy to play with this is great. This thing is flimsy and the keys dont pick up you typing like a regular keyboard. The mouse functions are not as cool as they sound because they dont work. The whole thing doesnt have one strong point. I ended up returning mine after using it for 2 or 3 months to try and give it a chance to shine and me to get used to it but no luck. Buyer beware!!!!!!!

 "Pretty nice" 2010-07-11
By my_reviews_amazon (USA)
I like the ergonomics of this keyboard, many of the other integrated touch pads I saw were in an awkward location when trying to use the keyboard on a couch. This one fits nicely into my lap and doesn't destroy my wrist while I'm using it. The only negative is that it does loose the mouse occassionally, though my wireless mouse at work does the same thing.

 "Fantastic Wireless keyboard" 2010-07-09

The CE Compass wireless keyboard is a really satisfying purchase for what you get. I'll divide this up in a pro vs con:

Pros

First off, the price point is very good. For $40 you get a wireless keyboard with a slew of multimedia keys and probably the biggest draw, the smart touchpad. The touchpad is fan-freaking-tastic. It is my favorite part of the whole keyboard and is PERFECT for a home theater setup. Great sensitivity and the pad space is decent. Range is very good, with no lost input at a distance of 15 feet. Keyboard returns from sleep state very quickly. Keyboard layout is super convenient, which is what I'm looking for when I want to watch a movie. The location of the mouse pad and the multimedia buttons allows you to hold it like a game controller, and it is overall effortless. While it is primarily focused on the home theater arena, it makes for an excellent tool for work conferences (Convenience of not being limited by a cable!).

Cons

Honestly, for the price it is really hard to complain about anything. I am however extremely picky about keyboard finish and construction quality, which I have to knock a star off for; the overall feel of this leaves me unimpressed. Very simplistic and not very exciting to look at. Keys and multimedia buttons wiggle in place, multimedia buttons are boring. Keyboard makes noises if you shake it. Those who like tactile key reponse and noise will like this. I like buttons and keys to be firm, silent, and have some degree of interest. While I dig how the USB receiver tucks in nicely on the back of the keyboard, the receiver can stick out far if using front USB ports (Making it an easy target for shins and knees!).

The CE Compass wireless keyboard provides ease of use, signal constistency, convenience, and utility value, making this an excellent tool to make the home theater experience much, much better. Be warned; you will become much lazier after a week of watching movies and television with this thing!
