"Design over function. Not Mac compatible." 2010-08-22
By MM
This keyboard looks great and seems to be constructed well, the illumination is good, but that is about it. It is really uncomfortable to use, and has only two adjustments: perfectly flat, or very, very slightly raised. You can't adjust, remove or replace the palm rest, perhaps with one you prefer, which is unfortunate since the attached palm rest is actually slippery and aids in making the keyboard hard to use. Since the keys are stylishly flat, you can't find your position by feel -- you constantly have to look to re-align your hands. And... it is not Mac compatible, which is odd because how hard can that be? Sure, it types if connected to a Mac, and you can adjust the modifier keys in OSX, but only SOME of the modifier keys work regardless of what you assigned them to. For example, the control key on the left works, the exact same control key on the right does not. The standard function keys (F12, etc) work as expected on a Mac, but Mac users will miss out on the dual-functionality those keys offer PC users (adjusting iTunes, launching an app, etc).

Why it is so difficult to find a decent, standard, illuminated keyboard -- Mac OR PC -- is beyond me!

 "Very Nice" 2010-08-21
By W. Maxwell (Los Angeles, CA United States)
Logitech has been making some great products for a long time. This keyboard is one of those products that seems to set the standard for all others to follow. I'm a Mac person and the only time I use a PC is when I am contracting. For the most part I stay away from PC products and at home I am 95% Mac. My year old Apple aluminum keyboard started having dead keys after a cleaning. So I wanted to get an illuminated keyboard so I would not have to use two LED USB lights when I work at night. Apple seems to think that laptops are only worthy of an illuminated keyboard and don't offer anything for desktops (seems like a missed opportunity).

Yes, I know this illuminated keyboard is for Windows PC's, but after reading some reviews I decided to give it a try. Well after a day and night of use I could not go back to the Apple aluminum keyboard if I had to. There is a big difference between the two and the Logitech just performs better. The keys are responsive and easier to use. The illumination is just amazing. I now sit in the dark, save the light from the flat screen, and I can see all the keys I need with a simple glance. OS X Snow Leopard will open a dialog window to help it recognize the keyboard and with a few keystrokes you are good to go (this will happen every time you reboot or unplug the keyboard). The special function keys do nothing (they are mapped for Windows, I do not know if they work with Parallels running Windows 7 yet), but the OS does recognize the "F" keys, volume keys and the Windows key on the left side acts as command (Apple) key.

It was not a big deal to get used to the minor changes in the way some keys are mapped and if I need to make some changes I can use an app called Ukelele. So far out of the box it just feels right and I have a feeling that it will last longer than my Apple keyboard. Now I can't understand why all keyboards aren't illuminated like the logitech.

"Great Illuminated Keyboard... Worth Every Penny." 2010-08-21
By J. Berry (St. Joseph, MO)
I looked at this keyboard a half-dozen times before I decided to buy it. Wasn't sure if the price was justified.... but after using it - it's worth the $$, yes. I'm usually pretty happy, sometimes impressed, with Logitech products and I was not disappointed. The illumination behind the keys is clear and very cool in low lighting. The keyboard has a great feel and is easy to type on. The slimness and design are very well done. I even liked the "special keys" setup better than other keyboards I have had. I love the Apple Aluminum Keyboards for my Macs, but was looking for something equally slim, sleek, and easy to use for my PC. This one compares well up next to the Apple Design and that's saying alot! Well Done Logitech.

"Just what I was looking for!" 2010-08-21

Glow in the dark keys for someone who is both a night owl and a "Hunt & Peck" typist. What more could one ask for? I don't suppose this would be as useful to a true touch-typist, but I love the multiple levels of brightness, and the keyboard has a great feel to it. Very happy with this purchase!

"Great Keyboard, Almost Little Value" 2010-08-20
By Sey Hee Park (Gainesville, Florida, US)
Ever since I saw how the old PowerBook G4s had illuminated keyboards I had always wanted one for myself. I knew their that practicality would almost be nil, considering the screen from a monitor would be bright enough for one's eyes, but I still thought it would be cool to have one nonetheless. Some years after I first wanted one, it finally came...but in the form of the Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

I bought this keyboard on Black Friday 2009 at Staples when it was just 29.99 (compare that to the price right now). I brought it home, plugged it in, and immediately fell in love with it. All of the hotkeys worked out of the box with no software configuration/installation whatsoever on my HP laptop with Windows 7 Professional. If you wanted to configure what programs opened with which keys, however, software installation is required. Brightness control is set at a few levels and is controlled on the keyboard itself.

The keys are not entirely flat but have a little curvature, but their thickness is exactly like that you would see on a laptop, which some people will love and some people will hate. The keyboard is very responsive..with one caveat. I remember reading a review long ago about how someone said the keyboard had some built-in hardware "spell" correction where if it senses a weird combination of letters it simply will not type both letters at all. The reviewer had warned that there is no way to disable it and while this is cool 95% of the time, there is that 5% of the time where you find yourself having to press backspace/go slower with typing because you're typing an unusual word that the keyboard "thinks" is not correct. I must agree with this reviewer...but it only happens about 2% of the time I'd say.

Yes the keyboard doesn't have much functionality other than being illuminated...it's not even wireless and it doesn't have a USB hub. And I would've never bought it for $64.99 (current price right now). But were it even at $49 on that Black Friday? Yeah I probably would've bought it. It's a cool product to have, and the ergonomics are sound. Just don't expect much more.
